Meet Executive Chef Juan Carlos Murillo…
Chef Juan Carlos Murillo was born in the bustling city of Aguascalientes, Mexico and has a long history in the culinary industry. He discovered his passion for the culinary art at an early age, and shares this love of food with his familial influences. He recalls watching his grandfather make carnitas every weekend when he was a child and says that his mom also owned her own small food business. He first started as a dishwasher 25 years ago and then continued advancing his career as he worked as line cook, then Sous Chef and then Chef. He has spent the last 18 years working for Houston’s Restaurant, Banderas Restaurant, Nick’s Restaurant and Del Frisco’s, eventually making his way to Oakmont of Huntington Beach. Chef Juan Carlos was introduced to the idea of cooking in a senior living environment by his former Sous Chef, and says he instantly fell in love with the idea. He most enjoys the social aspects of his work, and building relationships with residents. He enhances our culinary program with his unique style of cooking, which he describes as an infusion of Oriental and Latin elements, with Italian cuisine as an additional inspiration.
Chef Juan Carlos lives with his wife and five children. His favorite foods are crab and Chilean sea bass, and he enjoys watching soccer, football and basketball and reading Mexican history and Gabriel Garcia Marquez novels.
With his passion for gourmet cuisine, Chef Juan Carlos brings an enticing sense of style to our menu, personalizing each meal for our residents’ individual tastes and needs. We would like to invite you to share a meal with us here at our world-class retirement community, so that you can personally experience how Chef Juan Carlos and his team make every meal a gourmet experience.
